Obama Wins Nobel Prize
In a bit of news that seems to be surprising to all, it was announced that President Obama was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. Here is an excerpt of the official statement released by the committee:
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapon.
President Obama said he was “surprised and deeply humbled”. And as an American, I am proud that our sitting president has been awarded such an honor. I feel like every American citizen should feel the same, regardless of their political views. Perhaps this is a sign that the world views America in a positive light again.
